TSN #16 - What can YOU do for AI?
The new GPT o1 is here since Friday, let me show you what is "wow" about it!
Hey! 👋
Since last Thursday/Friday the internet became increasingly full of reviews of the long awaited ChatGPT o1 (preview). It really is interesting and means a lot for us, non technical builders.
I’ve put together the best 4 threads outlining the capabilities. Yes, it also made me renew my GPT subscription. For now some Plus accounts have access to o1 preview and some to the full o1.
Also, I tried building a snake game with it and ran it on my Mac, it’s fun!
I’ve recently updated my recommendations list, if you are looking for some summer inspiration, check it out.
The ChatGPT o1 reviewed by the Internet
1/ Ability showcase
To get up to speed, watch these 4 videos. I did, and even being a non tech I tried building a game by myself. I encourage all of you non tech people to try it out. Just format the prompt in a way that it understands your skill & can guide you better. Doesn’t have to be a game though, try a micro saas :)
🎉Congrats to @OpenAI for releasing o1:
- Economics: @tylercowen asked o1 basically to write a college essay
- Genetics: @CatBrownstein asked o1 to help her reason through "n of 1" cases - medical cases that nobody has ever seen
- Physics: @MarioKrenn6240 used o1 to draft and… x.com/i/web/status/1…— swyx.sg (@swyx)

2/ Hand in Hand with Cursor
Cursor.com had a lot of hype in the recent weeks, as it is probably the best AI coding app. See what you can do by using those two in synergy.
Just combined @OpenAI o1 and Cursor Composer to create an iOS app in under 10 mins!
o1 mini kicks off the project (o1 was taking too long to think), then switch to o1 to finish off the details.
And boom—full Weather app for iOS with animations, in under 10 🌤️
Video sped up!

3/ Sam Altman comments:
I like how the quality of a model is judged against the toughest application in the history. Imagine what you could do with it in the SMB space, or in rather “analogue” industries.
here is o1, a series of our most capable and aligned models yet:

o1 is still flawed, still limited, and it still seems more impressive on first use than it does after you spend more time with it.

4/ Google taking a swing:
This is an interesting take, Google used their own LLM to generate a podcast episode based on the information, that was released about GPT o1. Imagine the type of content you can mass create for your niche.
Do you know what’s even more interesting than OpenAI’s o1 🍓?
A podcast generated directly from the information provided by @OpenAI by NotebookLLM from @GoogleAI.
So cool! @OfficialLoganK

These were the shiny showcases. I am already thinking of niches where you could apply this to have a competitive advantage. Boring businesses? Analogue industries? There are a lot of underlaying processes that are either done by people or consultants, I’m pretty sure those could be replaced.
Let’s give it couple of weeks and then recap what became possible with O1. Take care!
